Guess what??? Our car broke down, again. Tim had to be on the road by 3:00 today so he took my car and now I'm stuck at home. Oh well, I could use some quality internet time to catch you up on our news, which really isn't anything at all; I hope your hopes aren't up too high. Anyway here it is... we canceled our satellite. Is that even anything worth sharing?? In my world, YES!
I've pretty much made watching TV like a part-time job for myself. It has gotten bad, really bad. I've had a few moments where I've tried to either pause or rewind real life. No joke. I come home from work, unload the dishwasher, make coffee and park in front of the TV for a good hour. Then Tim comes home and sometimes I can get him stuck in the same trap. After awhile we make dinner and eat it, where?? In front of the TV. Then I watch some more while he plays basketball or guitar. Then it's off to bed. Blah.
Once 2009 rolled around we decided to set some new goals [check some out here] and our TV watching started to get in the way of almost EVERYTHING on our list. When we made our list of goals we thought we could put on our big girl and big boy pants and turn it off every once in awhile... that didn't happen. We also talked about canceling our satellite for almost half of a second, and putting the money towards something more important [which should have been a duh moment]. Obviously we decided not to.... until it came up again about a few weeks ago. I made a list of pros and cons for canceling it... here's a quick version:
Pro's to canceling it (in no particular order):
1. We'd have more time TOGETHER
2. We'd have more time to read
3. We'd have more time to get things done around the house
4. With more time to get things done around the house, we'd have more time for you!
5. Tim could spend more time playing guitar
6. We'll have a little more money
7. We have a ton of movies/shows on DVD to watch [which have already been paid for]
8. We're starting P90X soon [thanks Mo for your tip, that sped things up!] and not having the satellite will help us stay focused
9. Somehow doing our devotions got put on the back burner because we stayed up too late watching TV... not anymore.
10. You can watch almost EVERYTHING online
Con's to canceling:
1. We'll have to watch commercials [grrr!]
2. We won't know much about whats going on with Jon & Kate, Regis & Kelly, 18 Kids & Counting, Say Yes to the Dress, Dog the bounty hunter, Bill O'Reilly, LOST, The Office, Baseball Tonight, Judge Judy, Fox and Friends [ugh!], We Mean Business, Greys, Glenn Beck, Little People Big World, ... you get the point. We had 100+ "events" on our DVR.
So we've decided to get rid of it. Well, we decided last week and then all of the sudden Tim texted me letting me know he canceled it Tuesday morning. He pulled the bandaid off... I thought even though we had made a decision we hadn't really committed to the idea completely... yet. He knew if he didn't do it right away, we'd never do it. He's good for me.
We're going to take the money we would have spent on it every month and go out on a big date or a lot of little coffee dates. I'm super excited and very SCARED!! Someday we'll be able to juggle TV watching and life... right now we just want to do things a little differently and focus more on our relationships with each other, with God and with our friends [near & far].
When we told a couple of friends that we were thinking about doing this their first response was "What are you going to do without it?!" I was surprised by how many people couldn't believe we were doing this. Hmmm.... Something tells me we will be fine and that life is about to become a lot more interesting!!
With all of that said, if you have cable/satellite or a slingbox and you record any these shows please, and I mean pretty, pretty please, invite me over once in awhile or send your codes!! :)
holler!

an emotional gal
Today was a big day in the Burkey household. More on that tomorrow. I know, very suspenseful... don't get your hopes up. I do have a funny story to share, well I think it's funny. Last Monday night Tim and I were getting ready to go to church and we were running late [big surprise, I know]. I was walking out of our bedroom and Tim was walking in. He decided to wrap his arms around me and tried to push me back in our bedroom. I tried to push back. Then I said:
K: "Tim let me go. We're late...... Let me go!.....
T: [laughs]
K: Tiiiiiiimmm. Let me go!
T: [more laughter]
K: I'm stronger than you.... I'm stronger emotionally
T: Well then push me! Push me with your EMOTIONS!!
K: [falls to the floor laughing hysterically]
Who says something like that??
This girl.

drum roll...

Here's my book of the month... The Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne. Mark & Lauren gave this book to each of us for Christmas last year and I'm just getting around to reading it [my bad]. I know March is more than half way over now, but we've had a lot going on around here, reading-wise. Right now we're in the middle of reading three books in addition to our "book of the month goal".

Another Nephew.... YAY!!!!
Mark (Tims brother) and Lauren welcomed their tiny bundle of joy on March 10, 2009. He was 7 lbs 14 oz and 21.5 inches. We're planning to head down to Nashville to visit soon, until then I stole some pictures from Laurens facebook...

We also have another little one on the way.... I'm saying a niece but it's too early to tell.
[I've got to have hope that I'll have girls someday!!]

A day with Jeremy
Last Thursday my mom and I drove down to Indianapolis to spend the day with Jeremy while Amy worked. He is getting so BIG! I can't believe he's already 4 months. Here are some pictures from our big day... can't wait to see him again!

who turned out the lights??
Hola. What a weekend! We need a weekend from our weekend. Tim played guitar at church and had to be there by 2:30 Saturday afternoon and didn't get home until after 10:00. Then he had to be back by 8:00 Sunday morning and didn't get home until 4:30. He was home for one hour and then the power went out. It didn't come back on until around 8:30. When it started getting dark I decided to pull out some old Ikea candles we had in storage. They looked awesome on our coffee table with no other lights. We were very, very bored... enjoy!

Well I must get ready. We're off to Carries for dinner then onto church for FPU with our parents and Adam. Life is really exciting around here! If you have some free time check out last weekends service online... it was amazing!!! ...and the guy playing guitar was kind of cute.

Good News - Bad News
The bad news... we have the flu. Well, Tim definitely has the flu and I just feel icky.
The good news... Ann's PREGNANT!! As Tim would say, "YAY!!" She's due late October/early November. I'm pumped!! I'll be an aunt for the third time in less than one year.

Ok, I feel horrible so I'm going to go to bed. I'll add more later.
PEACE
